André Des Rochers holds an LL.B degree in Law and Jurisprudence (1986). He completed his legal education at the University of Montreal, at the Faculty of Law and Administration [en] (1986-1989), and received an internship with a law firm in 1988. Admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1989, he practiced for two years at the law firm Lavery, de Billy et Lavery. At the end of that period, André Des Rochers joined McCarthy Tétrault LLP’s Corporate and Commercial Department as an associate from 1991 to 1997
Mr. Rochers is a member of the Quebec Bar Association and the Barreau du Québec. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, American Society for Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), Canadian Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (CSAC), Music Lawyers Association International (MLA), and International Federation of Phonographic Industry (IFPI). André Des Rochers has been actively involved in the arts community in Montreal as director at the Crescendo Foundation since 1999, managing director at Festival Entente Musicale since 2005, and board member at Les Bénévoles de l’Art Inc
André Des Rochers is an expert in intellectual property rights, music publishing, record label contracts, and artist agreements. He advises clients who have entered various business agreements and acquired and transferred different intellectual property rights. He has been counsel to artists such as Patricia Kaas, Jean Leloup, Daniel Boucher, Béatrice Martin, and many others. Mr. Rochers has also been counsel to several major Canadian record labels such as Audiogram (BMG Music Canada).
